Spring practice begins for the Huskers
The Huskers held their first of fifteen spring practices by working out inside the Hawks Championship Center on Wednesday. As expected, Coach Callahan set a fast pace right away.
“We did not hold back from our package from where we ended last season against Auburn (in the Cotton Bowl). We picked up the installation the first day of practice as if we were just concluding the last day of practice."
Now that practice has started we are hearing more from QB Sam Keller. Keller had been kept out of reach of the media last season, but spoke up after Wednesday's practice.
"It's not too fast. I've been around football too long for it to go too fast. But it is very rapid and you do have to keep your head on a swivel and stay ready. It was fun. I had a good time. I've been waiting for this for a long time, to actually be in the mix as a possible starter and not just with the scout team and not just learning for bowl prep."

We've got to play with a high level of intensity if we want to earn your readership. If you keep stopping by we'll keep doing what we do best. If we hustle, good things will happen. (Did I cover all the classic sayings jocks drop in the locker room?)
Anyway. Spring practice has started. We've got you covered.

JB Phillips is an interesting development for the Huskers in spring ball. You look at different Pro teams any more, and the classic I formation seems to be out the window. There's a reason that the two tight end set is called the Pro Set. With a guy that can play fullback and tight end, you can come in with an I-set and motion the FB out to TE slot and run a sweep or play action slant. Basically you have more options. All of the FB's at Nebraska end up being some of my favorite players. Here's hoping to Phillips being another great player in a long line of good fullbacks.
