Nonconference Classes of 2007: Virginia Tech
The Hokies overall class doesn't jump out at you as being the best in the nation or even the ACC. But there is definite star power, enough to cause some concern. Virginia Tech landed a commitment from the top dual-threat quarterback in the country (per Rivals.com) in Tyrod Taylor. With hopes of redshirting the youngster, it's likely he could be a new starter by the time the Hokies come to Lincoln in 2008 and an experienced veteran by the time Nebraska travels to Blacksburg in 2009.
Other standouts for the Hokies include a linebacker, two cornerbacks, a safety, two offensive tackles, and a running back that get a four-star rating from either Rivals or Scout.com.
Where the Hokies lose points is with the six two-star recruits in the class. Not a terrible amount but also not the sign of a maximized use of scholarships either. The class of 2007 doesn't look all that different from past Tech classes which means you have some standouts but mostly just solid three-star guys and then a handful of longshots. Certainly not the kind of class to scare Texas or USC, but the kind of class that could keep the Hokies in the Top 25.

Boy, you are getting a little ahead of yourself with this one, but I like the effort! I currently live in Hokie land, and to me Thug "U" is up there with Miami and Free Shoes U. That Taylor is as good as advertised tough.

Andrew,
Why be such a turd? There's no call for that.
To the Nebraska fans: The Hokies look forward to a great series between VT and Nebraska. Good luck in 2007.

No Doubt dude. I think that VT has pretty much proven that their perennial top 20 recruits yield top 10 teams. Hmmm wonder why. How is it that VT Never has top rated talent but deliver the goods? Must be magic. Tyrod is is the X factor.

MEHOKIE,
College football is like no other sport. You can go back and trace the history and have pride in it. Rutgers, for example is the birthplace of college football.
I stated something about the Hokies that is a fact. They have trouble with the kids they have at there school.
For example, the younger Vick and his antics driving fast, driving under a suspended license etc. Two years ago he would have never been kicked of the team. Since they have to worry about there image now, because of past incidents) they kicked him off the team. I don't mean to such a (turd), but the truth is the truth.
That does not mean I am not looking forward to playing them. They are a well coached team, and it should be a good test for NU!
It a ways away though.

VT's staff has been together for a friggin generation. If you think all exceptional talents are pegged by Rivals w/ 4 or 5 stars, you are in lala land. Some staffs do a great job finding 'thru-the-cracks' guys. VT is one.

Very cheap shot, Andrew. VT graduation rates are very high, and Marcus was removed from the team, perhaps not early enough to suit you, but early enough to send a message. What else do you want to complain about?
Regarding the recruiting stars, VT had mostly very early commitments (read this as kids that did not send film to 75 schools to get multiple offers and drive up the star ratings), and typically these do not give a plethora of 4 and 5 stars. VT teams almost always out perform their recruiting ratings.
Glad to see Nebraska on the VT schedule. Looking forward to those games.

I forgot about the Hokie games coming up. That and the present USC game, with Tennessee in the future is just great. I've always felt that Virginia Tech was a mirror type of Nebraska. I don't think (know) that Frank Beamer was influenced by Osborne, but he would have made a good replacement for Solich. I know he wouldn't have come here though, he's born and raised "Hokie".
One thing about the ratings and "stars" debate is; the kids have a good idea of the pecking order coming in. If you're on scholorship, but not a "star" recruit, that can be a motivational advantage. Competition thats fair and not stacked against those who aren't "prototype" is the way to go. Nebraska has that now. Callahan has demonstrated a renewed appreciation for his walkons, the performers will get a scholorship at some point. One thing that is certain to me, Nebraska is not ready to deal with top end "dual threat" Quarterbacks. I'd rather see Nebraska play USC some more.

Hokie here. Can't wait to play the Big Red Machine.
P.S. "Andrew" sounds like one of those battery-throwing WVU sadsacks that trolls the Internet with Hokie-envy LOL. Could also be a UVA wahoo who's still angry that the penis-enlargement spam he answered didn't work.

These guys make Marcus Vick look like a saint. Remember them Huskers?
Ahman Green, Christian Peter, Ritchie Incognito, Junior Tagoa'i, and of course, the evil poster boy of Husker football - Lawrence Phillips.

Hokies,
I just stated the fact that VT has an image issue. I never said they could not recruit, or that they did not play above there recruiting rankings. However, I would not mind playing the Hokies in November, or any other time they feel the need to play.
