Nonconference Classes of 2007: USC

The Trojans pulled in a recruiting class that even the Longhorns might like to have. Five of them were the top recruit according to Rivals.com or Scout.com. Ten of the eighteen recruits received a five-star rating from Scout. Six of the remaining eight players received a four-star rating from either Rivals or Scout.

The good news (or bad news) from Nebraska’s perspective, is that with USC’s overall depth the Huskers may not see any of these players when they face the Trojans early next year. The Trojan’s class includes Husker targets in defensive tackle Da’John Harris and defensive ends Michael Reardon and Christian Tupou.

USC is an interesting contrast to Texas when it comes to recruiting. The Longhorns lock in most of their class before the season begins while the Trojans get much of their commitments very late in the process (e.g. a third of the class committed within a few days of signing day). In that sense you might give Texas an edge or conversely you might say that USC is so confident they’ll pull in top classes that they can wait and watch a player’s senior season before locking them in. Either is an enviable position.

So while the Husker’s might be spared seeing Joe McKnight (a.k.a. the next Reggie Bush) in their 2007 meeting with USC, it will only be because the Trojans are loaded with great options from years past.
