Big 12 Classes of 2007: Texas A&M

If size matters, then the Aggies class of 2007 was the worst in the conference with only eighteen players. But in terms of value, it rates ahead of most of the schools in the Big 12 North and not far behind Oklahoma State. Like the Cowboys, the Aggies landed seven players who received a four-star rating from either Rivals.com or Scout.com.

It's not the case that the Aggies were scrambling either. Only two of the commitments came in January and only a single one came in December. All three of those players received a three-star or better rating. None of the eighteen members came from the junior college ranks. So there were no signs of desperation.

It's hard to believe that the Aggies couldn't have found more space on the roster to offer scholarships, but the decision seems deliberate on the Aggies part. Curiously, despite the eighteen that were announced on signing day, Scout.com lists an additional four members of the class. Scout lists the commitment dates for these players as coming well in advance of signing day. Perhaps these kids have eligibility issues (academics etc.). In any case, they have yet to be announced at aggieathletics.com.

Like the Cowboys, the Aggies bring in a class that would be the envy of most Big 12 North schools. Unfortunately, they sit in the middle of the pack in the Big 12 South and thus remain behind Texas and Oklahoma, yet again.

I would think Dennis Franchione would be on the "hot seat" this year. I thought he was on the hot seat last year. He's gotten more time than Callahan will get, me thinks.

Okay, spot Okie and Texas theirs, this team as much as Nebraska, should compete for top ten status each year. I really thought Franchione was goint to "hit it out da park" with the Aggies. I almost had a dread sense (maybe I'm a little dramatic) when he defected from 'Bama.
Sure, tough conference, tough division, but I really thought this team would elevate, somewhat like Okie, with Stoops.
And what would it take?
