Big 12 Classes of 2007: Baylor
It's not news when Baylor pulls in the weakest class in the Big 12 South. It's probably not even news that they did manage to beat Iowa State for next-to-last place honors in the Big 12. So what is news?
Well to Nebraska fans it is that the Bears lured Husker target four-star linebacker Earl Patin to Waco. Patin had offers from Nebraska, West Virginia, and Tulane but chose Baylor instead. Sure, you can get early playing time and yes Waco is warmer than Lincoln. But is being a little cold and playing a year earlier worth having your season end every November? Apparently so.
Four-star junior college transfer quarterback John David Weed, is the only other player to receive four stars from either Rivals.com or Scout.com. I've said it before, Baylor fans have got to be high on Weed.
The Bears added eleven players that received a three-star rating from either Rivals or Scout. So there will be some raw material, just not near as much as you see most other places in the Big 12. There are thirteen two-star players in the class, and you never to expect find those guys appearing on the all-conference teams.
Baylor has a long way to go. To get there, they need to hit home runs with guys like Patin and Weed and have a bunch of diamonds in the rough emerge as big-time players. Signing day gives no indication that they're closing the gap on the rest of the Big 12. But if you're Baylor, whattayagonnado?

Off topic....
Any word on how B-Jax did at the combine?

Grant,
He didn't run a blistering 40 time, so you'd think he's probably not going to shoot up the draft board on the basis of the combine.

Ya, I am still wondering why he went? Hopefully Lucky will learn from this and stay next year.
