My favorite part of this "job" is reading all of the great comments that you folks contribute. There have been lots of vigorous debates and quite a few fans from opposing teams chiming in. Yet, the discussions are mostly polite and always enlightening. We've received over 800 comments this year and I can only think of one or two that we had to delete because they were excessively profane or threatening. (Hey, that's pretty good for a blog.)

We appreciate all our readers, but we really love those who stick their neck out to voice their opinion. Here is a sample of the great comments that we received this year from our most frequent commenters.

Commenting on Huskers Stumble in Stillwater:
Coz blitzing worked Last week!!!!!!!! But I can tell you that not blitzing sure didn't work this week. We have an attacking defense and when you put them in deep cover 2 all day with no pressure up front I wonder if they will get 500 yards of offense. The front 4 don't get pressure. I too thought that they would be awesome, a sack everyother pass play. but that isn't happening. So I think that it is time to actually change somethings up. I hate Carriker playing gap ball, and soley gap ball all day.

Commenting on Hey Buddy:
We should all start to get used to a revolving door at NU. We were spoiled with Osborne and his staff, and those days are over. Callahan has put together a very qualified staff of coaches that excel in recruiting. It was always a matter of time until Blake left, and that is the same for other coaches as well. Busch, Watson, Gilmore, Norvell, & Jordan are young coaches with aspirations of moving up the coaching ladder in their careers. Chances are they will get those opportunities else where, as they should. They are qualified. Glad NU was able to get an established coach with a good recruiting resume (who is from Texas and recruits Texas very well), but this won't be the last post we see for a coaching change. It's just the nature of college football these days.

Commenting on Huskers Stumble in Stillwater:
The OSU offense appeared to have made some run blocking scheme adjustments in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, because we couldn't stop the stretch play. Early on, our defense played well. Coz has never been known for strong defensive adjustments during the game. He either has a brilliant game plan (i.e. Texas 2006), or he has a crappy game plan (i.e. Missouri 2005). We're a little banged up defensively, but so isn't the rest of the nation.

Commenting on Husker Fans' Feelings About Freeman:
In response to Keith. Must be hard being a fan of both Nebraska and K-State. Rooting for the Huskers AND Wildcats is like rooting for the Yankees AND the Red Sox. I just don't see how it can be done. Both are in the same league (conference), same division, fighting for the same prize. One team has numerous championships, the other has....one. Oh wait, the Red Sox did win a championship, and K-State has not. Nevermind, bad comparison.

Commenting on At Last - Nebraska Vs. Oklahoma:
Hook'em: You sound like you were in some way "wronged". You earned your extra week off.. Beat Kansas State and we aren't in this situation. You knew the stakes going into the Texas A&M game and did not answer the annoying cowbell.. (IN AUSTIN)! Need I remind you that Nebraska beat both Kansas State and Texas A&M ON THE ROAD! To commment on your "embarassement to the Big 12 conference"...how do you figure? One team will win and go onto the BCS title game with a good chance of winning... THE SAME storyline if Texas was in the game. You're mad because there won't be any burnt orange in arrowhead on December 2nd. Don't try spinning it any other way. I think that the college football fan base will be excited to see NU play OU. I leave you with a comment I once heard from one of your fellow Texas fans: " Don't get bitter, get better..."

Commenting on Shizik Won't Save Cyclones:
As for the future of ISU football, I really don't know what other direction it can go. I'm not sure how far $135 million will go in that stadium, which needs a LOT of renovating. I'm also not sure how Solich, Osborne, Callahan, Creighton Bluejays, Pinkel, and Moses of all people get mentioned in all of these blogs without one mention of who put this program where it is now...Dan Mccarney. I think I remember hearing how this guy is a Hayden Fry kind of a coach and if anyone can bring the Cyclones up, he can. Yes, ISU did beat NU in some down years and even pulled off an upset or two. But if this is the weakest Big 12 North in history, how does this ISU team not become bowl eligible??? (Raising Hand) I know!! Because it's not wrestling or women's basketball. People said hiring Callahan was a bad move. Ask any good football analyst or coach and they'll tell you that they need 4-5 years to get their system in with the right kind of players. I think Callahan is on the right track. Has anyone seen Joe Dailey's stats lately? Frank is in a good place. Ohio is a good team that needed a GOOD coach. Frank is a good coach but is not the guy to lead NU back to the top. To Stan the Man-- If the competition is thinning, then why are the cyclones losing more games?? We've got a caller.... "Pipe Dream in Ames you're on the line...."

Special thanks to Scott, who is by far our most prolific commenter. A BRN tshirt is on it's way. Just a little somethin' for the effort.

2007 New Year's Resolution: I will comment more to earn my very own BRN t-shirt. How's it go? Aim for the moon, even if I miss I'll land among the stars!

BTW, isn't it great that the Monday after our bowl loss, our Sports section in the OWH is already doing pieces on the 2007. I love being a Nebraska fan.

Go Big Red!

A worthy goal THughes! We are honored to make your New Year's Resolution list. (Do we rate above or below "Organize the garage" and "Exercise more"? :)

I guess one of the side effects of losing a bowl game is that folks are anxious to start thinking about next year. Good news: According to our countdown widget, only 99 days till the Spring Game!

THughes:

I had the exact same thought when reading the preview(?) of the 2007 offense on Omaha.com today. We're not here to talk about the past, we're here to talk about the present...and future.

Also, aside from the intrigue surrounding Keller's abilities, I'm probably more interested in how his attitude will be preceived. Nebraska probably hasn't had a truly, make-you-blush, cocky player since Broderick Thomas, so the first time Keller bows after a TD toss could be pretty interesting.

Personally, I say go for it Sam. I like 'em a little brash, especially behind center. But you better win some games otherwise it will get old real quick.

Remember, "winners get to do what they want."

I have to agree about the hilarity of reading comments and, even better, emails from people outraged over something I wrote. Nice work, BRN.
