Huskers Add Quality Walk-on
Elkhorn's Kevin Thomsen has agreed to walk-on at Nebraska. The 2-star prospect was listed as a defensive end by the recruiting services but might play fullback at Nebraska. Rivals lists his measurables as 6 feet 2 inches, 250 lbs. with a 500 lbs. squat and 360 lbs. bench and he's said to run the 40 in 4.8 seconds.
Scout.com reports that Thomsen received a scholarship offer from Wyoming and it's not hard to believe that if he were just an inch or two taller (more prototypical for a defensive end) he might have more offers. Thomsen's shortcoming (pun intended) may be Nebraska's gain as they get a player who appears to have Division I-A talent even if he's got Division I-AA size. Thomsen will help fill a need wherever he lines up whether it's on the defensive line, tight end or fullback.
His commitment would just seem another indicator of the rising tide of talent at NU. A few years ago, he might have been offered a full scholarship at Nebraska. Now that the Huskers have more talent, they no longer need to "pay retail" to get the services of an in-state kid with some upside. But clearly he's a kid with the potential to contribute at the Division I-A level. Another good get in recent weeks for Nebraska.

It is also great to keep a NE kid, in state. Don't know what kind of kid this one is, but having a Dane Todd-type kid in your program never hurts.
