Did someone say they wanted nice tailgating weather? I thought I heard that a few times this week.

After bitter cold morning lows in the teens throughout the week, Saturday will be much warmer for the 3 B's of football tailgating -- BBQ, brats, and beer -- before the 11 AM kickoff at Memorial Stadium. Temperatures at 9 AM will be in the upper 40s. Kickoff will feature a mix of sun and clouds with temps in the middle 50s before we reach our afternoon high by game's end -- in the lower 60s.

I know, it sounds too good to be true. Well, it is.

The only wrinkle in all of this is wind. The wind will blow out of the south at 10 to 15 mph, slowly weakening throughout the day. Direction of the wind is important in football, but for those of you who have spent several November afternoons inside the walls of Memorial Stadium, you know it can swirl.

Air moving around the stadium has many obstacles to pass through, such as gaps between the endzone stadiums and East and West stadium and other buildings on campus and downtown. The physics of the wind moving through and around these obstacles can cause the wind to do strange things. Not good news for a team with serious concerns in the kicking game. Let's hope it dies down early in the game! GO BIG RED!
