All-Conference Implications: Is NU Back?
At BRN, we believe strongly that talent matters. And we openly espouse that "5 great players" can make for a great (conference title) team. Looking at this list, it is clear NU is getting closer to the 5-great-players ratio we believe is needed to be a conference title winner and a national power.
While NU failed to get 5 guys on the first team, they do have 4 - Zach Taylor, Dane Todd, Bo Ruud, and Adam Carriker. That's two on each side of the ball, too, which is nice. And, they have 3 more on the second team - Brandon Jackson, Mo Purify, and Jay Moore. That's a total of 7 getting some sort of honor. And, having Taylor as the the offensive POY takes it a step further.
Granted, NU doesn't have any All-America caliber players this year (maybe Carriker if he had better stats). But, I'd say NU is much, much closer to where it needs to be. Enough to put us on the only field that matters - the title game field. From there, most would agree that anything can happen.
