Sizing Up Iowa State
Like most Big XII teams, the Cyclones have an offensive line with fairly prototypical size (tall and 300+ lbs.). Statistically, this group has given up a lot of sacks and hasn’t gotten a ton of rushing yards. Running back Stevie Hicks is built solidly at 220 lbs. The Cyclones also sport a pair of big wide receivers in Todd Blythe and Jon Davis (a tandem that’s combined for 112 yards per game and 6 touchdowns so far this season). Interestingly, their tight ends at 6’3” are fairly short by Division I-A standards.
On defense, the Cyclones sport two big defensive tackles but are a little smallish at defensive end. Likewise, the linebackers are a little small too. The defensive backs are not tall but aren’t especially small either.
Add all this up and you get a passing offense that can be downright scary, a running game that seems to underachieve, and a defense that may not be ready for prime time (or even Northern Iowa). So expect another shootout with big plays on both sides.
