Random observations from Nebraska's loss to Texas

Boy, the adrenaline is still pumping after that heartbreaking finish. Give the Huskers credit. They played with a team ranked much higher and were in it till the last Hail Mary. Here are a few random thoughts.
- Colt McCoy: Holy cow is that kid tough. And he's only a freshman.
- Darren totally called the halfback pass that gave the Huskers the lead with 5 minutes left in the game.
The Huskers lined up with three receivers bunched to the right. Taylor tossed the ball to Lucky (like we do every time in that formation), but this time Callahan had a little surprise for the Longhorns. Lucky hit a wide-open Swift in the end zone. Callahan has been setting up that play all season.
- If your drinking game has a rule that makes you drink every time Bret Musburger says, "Colt McCoy." You're probably in a coma right now. Bret *hearts* Colt McCoy.
- Comment of the day over on Texas site Burnt Orange Nation: "Thank you Ryan Bailey! I don't know who you are, but I love you."
(Bailey is the Sophomore walk on kicker who came off the bench to kick the game winning field goal...his first ever college kick.)
- A lot was said about Colt McCoy on the ABC broadcast, but Taylor had just as good a game statistically-speaking.
Colt McCoy 25 of 39 220 yards 2 TDs 0 INT
Zac Taylor 15 of 28 277 yards 2 TDs 1 INT
Yes, that interception by Taylor was huge. I know, McCoy is only a Freshman. I'm just sayin' Taylor played a pretty darn good game.
- I heard reports that Memorial Stadium was out of Runzas by half time! No wonder we lost! How can you run out of Runzas?
Give the Longhorns credit. They overcame a lot of mistakes and found a way to win in a hostile environment. Let's hope we get another shot at them in Kansas City in December!

Man, what an incredible game. I am still shocked that Nunn fumbled the ball. I thought the game was over. Congrats on a well fought game. I am sure we will see you again.

Jason,
I was at the game today. It is true; the Runza's and Valentino's pizza were gone by halftime.
I think the biggest positive that I noticed while at the game was that NU has definitely closed the talent gap. Texas wasn't all that more talented than we are. They are deeper in talent, but our starters vs. their starters were pretty darn close to even, minus Tierre Green and Courtney Grixby.

Nice post, Jason.
I appreciate the way you can still make some humor from the misery of having a game slip through NU's hands. Frustrating isn't the right word for it..
Btw, thanks for the props on calling that half back pass. But I wouldn't give me too much credit. I just thought those toss plays were so obvious, that they had to be a set up. I thought it was a set up for a counter. But, a half-back pass?! Wow...Bill left it all out on the field. That gives you a sense of how bad NU wanted this one. Just a tough, tough loss.

I was heartbroken by the loss.
Thought I should note that the die hard Longhorn fans who made the trip to Lincoln (and didn't sell their tickets b/c of the bad weather) were humble after the game and happy to get out of there with the W. I did not hear a single 'horn fan boast.
Obviously, I would have rather sent them home with a loss, but at least they weren't jerks about it.

Wow what a fun game!!! It's Monday and I'm still hoarse. :) As the Huskers were leaving the field after the game, chants of GO BIG RED broke out..
Which was pretty cool. The Texas fans were classy about their win. All in all it was a great college football game.
