Sizing Up Nicholls State
During the season, I like to compare the depth charts of Nebraska and its opponents to see where Nebraska has advantages and where their opponent has them. This week it was a pretty pointless exercise. The Huskers are bigger virtually everywhere and with the exception of a couple of big wideouts (who in the option offense are really more like tight ends), Nicholls State will be at a size disadvantage across the board.
The contest will really come down to how seriously the Huskers take this game. If they feel they have to play their guts out to stay sharp for USC, it will be a "name-the-score" type outing. If they basically consider it a week off, they can probably still win comfortably but not impressively and be forced to overuse their starters.
Once again the Huskers could unleash their stable of running backs and complement them with tight ends that dwarf the defensive backfield. The wideouts could certainly get involved as they will have good matchups as well. Mainly, you want to see the Huskers get in some work and get off the field healthy.
Fortunately, with both teams showing an affinity for the run, the game could move quickly, diminishing the opportunity for injuries.
