Husker Campus is Ready for Some Football

This is no ordinary Friday. For some students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, classes will be harder to sit through today than any other Friday of the semester. Every minute that passes means one thing: The Nebraska Cornhusker season-opening kickoff is a little bit closer.

Expectations on campus are still high. Typically the first game of the year is more of a glorified practice for the Huskers. But this year is different. Louisiana Tech is no cupcake, and the Huskers will have to play a decent game in order to win. Peter Myxter, a junior psychology major, believes the Huskers will defeat the Bulldogs 38-10. His roommate, junior business major Ben Woita, agrees that the red and white should dispose of Tech with relative ease.

However, like any well-educated Husker fan, Myxter recognizes some issues with the team when he looks at the big picture.

"I want to see the offensive line improve," he said.

With all the injuries and position changes, Myxter said he was most worried about the depth of the Husker secondary.

"We really could have used (Zachary) Bowman this year," he said.

Despite these quibbles, Woita and Myxter are still very optimistic for the season. Woita said the team has three really great running backs that should be fun to watch. Myxter was especially excited to see Marlon Lucky.

"I think he's going to have a breakout season," he said.

The bottom line is that Saturday is almost here. The students are ready, the fans are ready, the big screen is ready and the Huskers are ready. Brace yourselves, Husker Nation, because the fun is about to begin.

3 backs? Which one is he leaving out. I'll admit Im a huge BJ fan. He goes 100% all the time. There was a game last year I can't remember which one but he got a little garbage time and I watched him work and run 10x's harder than all the other players on the field and it was all up the middle and he was getting big chunks of yards. He had attitude. I think people will be surprized how good he is.
