Get 'er Done, Huskers!

Nationally known comedian "Larry the Cable Guy" visited Husker practice yesterday, as part of Coach Callahan's effort to "take the edge off" during the middle stretch of fall camp practice. The comedian, who hails from Pawnee City, Nebraska, told a few jokes and enjoyed taking in practice.
Despite his low-rent persona, Larry must be raking in some nice bucks with his TV and movie work, as he recently purchased seats in a Husker skybox and will apparently take in every home game this year. Like most NU fans, Larry sounded very knowledgeable in local television coverage, saying he thinks the Huskers will have a stout defense and improved balance on offense. And, in true Larry fashion, his prediction for the team was - "Big 12 championship....get 'er done!"

Larry's visit brings up a couple of other thoughts for me. I remember when Jason (this site's publisher) and I were in college and Larry was just a local comedian in the Lincoln area. He'd call in to the local rock station (101.9 the Edge, at that time) and do some pretty funny bits. It is nice to see how far hard work and a tag line can take a fella these days.
This celebrity visit also raises the topic of celebrity Husker fans. NU has Larry. And, tennis star Andy Roddick is a self-professed Husker lover who has attended games. What other celebrities can NU claim as fans? Post in the comments if you can think of some.
And hey, USC has Will Farrell and Snoop, and Texas has Mathew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong. I wouldn't mind seeing a celebrity 2-on-2 football game or something like that. Somebody call MTV, quick.
And, by the way, I'm sure all of our friends in Aggie land who took offense to our using the words "mobile home" in our A&M preview will take a certain amount of pleasure in seeing a redneck icon as a huge Husker fan. To that we can only say ... Get 'er done!

Ah, it is good we are getting some celebrity support, even if it is Larry the Cable Guy. I also remember the Edge 101.9. I used to listen to that every day--morning, noon and night. I remember Larry's bits on the show. He has gone a long way, but it is nice he remembers his Nebraskan roots... even if it is purchasing a skybox at the UNL stadium.
BTW: Nice website! I am so excited about college football returning for another season. I think Nebraska stands a decent chance this year.

The UGA and UAB Football game today is listed on TBD but we are unable to find that channel in Atlanta on Direct TV. Can you help?

Hi Brenda,
It looks like the game you are looking for is on ESPN Game Plan. So you might have to order it pay-per-view on Direct TV.
Here's a link.
