SoCal Spasms?

To say I'm looking at the development of USC's new quarterback with some interest would be a vast understatement.

So, recent news that one of the candidates to replace golden boy Matt Leinhart is having back trouble really gets me thinking.

In a broad sense, NU is getting USC at a good time, as they try to replace their star offensive players and break in a new quarterback. Though, history of mid-west teams going to California for road games is spotted with disaster. So, I remain skeptical.

About this kid's back problems -- the upside for NU is that one prospect is on the fritz. And, he's the more experienced one. I'd like our chances more against ANY freshman, no matter how much Sanchez has been hyped. The downside is that if Booty is out for the spring, it gives Sanchez a chance at ALL of the reps and to develop better and faster. It depends on your point of view.

One hidden factor in all of this is that the guru of USC's offensive rise -- Norm Chow -- isn't the one developing this new player or calling the shots. That job falls to two men who are decidedly less experienced (uh...they are, like, 30 years old), offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and QB coach Steve Sarkisian might really be the ones under the gun.
